Advocacy Group: Mullin Broke Term Limits Pledge

An advocacy group says an Oklahoma congressman who recently appeared to backtrack on a pledge to leave office after three terms already broke a promise he made five years ago to support an amendment calling for congressional term limits.

Republican U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin signed the pledge in 2011 while campaigning for the 2nd Congressional District seat, promising to co-sponsor and vote for imposing limits.

But Florida-based nonprofit U.S. Term Limits says Mullin backed off the agreement and wouldn't respond to the group's office when they reached out last year to find out why.

Mullin has refused to rule out seeking a fourth term in office, saying his "mind hasn't changed" about leaving Congress in 2018, but that he and his wife would continue to pray about what to do.
