Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. Legislature overrides third abortion veto

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Republican-controlled Oklahoma Legislature has successfully overridden Democratic Gov. Brad Henry's third veto of an abortion bill this session.

The Senate voted 33-15 on Tuesday to override Henry's veto of the Statistical Abortion Reporting Act. A handful of anti-abortion Democrats joined with Republicans to reach the 32-vote majority needed to override the veto.

The House easily voted to override the veto on Monday.

The bill would require women seeking an abortion and their doctors to complete a 38-question form before performing an abortion. Some of the questions have detailed subsections about a woman's relationships, finances and emotional health.

About three dozen abortion rights supporters clad in pink filled one side of the Senate gallery during the debate.
