OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows about 42 percent of Oklahoma remains in exceptional drought — the most severe category.

The monitor released Thursday shows exceptional drought stretching from Osage County westward across the Oklahoma Panhandle and in much of the southwestern corner of the state.

Extreme drought is reported in about 43 percent of the state and severe drought in more than 4 percent of the remaining sections of Oklahoma.

The National Weather Service's short term forecast calls for partly cloudy to sunny skies with afternoon highs in the 80s and 90s statewide through Saturday.
