Capitol Steps New Years Special: Politics Take A Holiday
Saturday, Dec 27 • 11 am-noon
Public Radio 89.5-1  [music]

Help roast 2014 to a crisp with the Capitol Steps and their annual year-in-review awards ceremony.  It’s all in their hour-long special, “Politics Takes a Holiday” featuring, “Is that guy jumping the White House fence or is he just really into Michelle’s ‘Get Moving’ campaign?”  “You say ISIS, I say ISIL.  Let’s call the whole thing off.”  And of course, “I scream, you scream, we all scream EBOLA!”

Practice (noun or verb?)
Sunday, Dec 28 • 7-8 pm
Classical 88.7-1  [music]

Any musician spends lots of time practicing, but so do Doctors and Lawyers. As we get ready for a new year what will be different and what will be the same? And how can this become a theme for an episode of Wind & Rhythm?

Toast of the Nation 2015 (live)
Wednesday, Dec 31 • 10 pm-4 am on Public Radio 89.5-1  [music]
Wednesday, Dec 31 • 8 pm-4 am on Jazz 89.5-2  [music]

Count down, sing along, and dance to live music all night long. Travel from coast to coast with four celebrations of midnight from time zone to time zone. It's the perfect holiday special for any New Year's event. Spirited, improvised, grooving, and swinging, with strings, horns, voices and drums, each segment is a stop in a sequence of parties, each one contributing something new to the musical feast.

New Year’s Day from Vienna (live)
Wednesday, Jan 1 • 10 am-noon
Classical 88.7-1  [music]

Get ready to pop the New Year's Day champagne! It has long been a Vienna Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a program consisting of the lively and nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the Johann Strauss family and their contemporaries. This year, Zubin Mehta leads the orchestra in music from the Strauss family and others featuring the polkas, gallops and waltzes of imperial Vienna, live from the Musikverein, on New Year's Day.
