2 Altus Police Officers on Leave After Shooting

ALTUS, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a man was injured after he was shot by two Altus police officers.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy says the shooting occurred early Monday. Murphy tells Lawton television station KSWO that the officers were responding to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of North Hightower Street.

Once there, police encountered a man with a gun. Murphy says the man fired one round at the officers, who returned fire. The man was struck once in the stomach and is now at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Murphy says the police officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave.
