State's First Flu Death of Season in Tulsa County

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Health says the state has recorded its first flu death of the season.

The department says the death occurred in Tulsa County between Dec. 19 and Christmas Day.

Officials did not release specific details about the person who died but said it was someone between the ages of 19 and 64.

The health department says the state has reported 75 hospitalized cases of influenza since Sept. 30. More than a quarter of those cases were reported in the past week.

Tulsa Suspect Ordered to Trial in Assault Case

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A Tulsa man accused in a deadly April shooting spree has been bound over for trial on unrelated charges alleging he assaulted a jail guard.

Jake England was charged after he allegedly elbowed and cursed a guard as he was being taken to his cell at the Tulsa jail from the recreation yard on November 1st. Online court records indicate he was ordered to trial Thursday after a preliminary hearing.

Hearing Set for Suspect in Oklahoma Church Bomb Plot

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) — An Illinois man who has received a mental health examination in connection with an alleged plot to attack dozens of northeastern Oklahoma churches with Molotov cocktails will be back in court next month.

Ottawa County Assistant District Attorney Becky Baird said Thursday that 23-year-old Gregory Arthur Weiler the Second of Elk Grove Village, Illinois will return to court on January 8th for a mental competency hearing.

Emails Show OSU Officials Fretted Over Coverage

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Internal documents and emails show Oklahoma State University officials fretted about the school's public image as details emerged about the sexual assaults of several male students on campus.

The documents obtained by The Associated Press through an open records request show university attorneys also maintained it was appropriate to withhold details of the alleged attacks from police.

Man Found Dead in Makeshift Tent in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City police say a man who is believed to be homeless was found dead inside a tent in southwest Oklahoma City.

The man's name has not been released.

Capt. Dee Patty told reporters the body was found late Wednesday afternoon behind a coin-operated laundry. Police say the man was wrapped in a blanket inside the tent.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death. Patty says foul play is not suspected.

Temperatures in Oklahoma City on Wednesday ranged from 13 to 28 degrees.

Reward Offered for Woolaroc Robbery

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) — Officials are offering a $3,500 reward for information about a robbery at the Woolaroc gift shop in northeastern Oklahoma.

Officials say a man robbed the gift shop shortly before closing Sunday night. Authorities say the robber fled with $4,500 in cash.

Woolaroc is a ranch, museum and wildlife preserve in the Osage Hills of northeastern Oklahoma. Its name is derived from three words — woods, lakes and rocks. The site is known for its Wonderland of Lights display each December.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bartlesville police.

112 lbs of Marijuana Seized in OKC Traffic Stop

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Authorities say two men were arrested after a traffic stop in which police found more than 100 pounds of marijuana.

The Oklahoman reports that the pair was pulled over near Interstate 35 on Sunday for a traffic violation.

A police report says authorities searched their vehicle and discovered two cardboard boxes containing 100 bundles of compressed marijuana — or about 112 pounds of the drug.

The men were taken to the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of trafficking illegal drugs for distribution.

Mechanic Hurt after Small Plane Flips in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Officials say all runways at Jones Riverside Airport in Tulsa have reopened after a small plane flipped over.

Officials say the incident happened Wednesday morning when the throttle on a Cessna 172 became stuck as a mechanic was moving the plane from one hangar to another.

Tulsa television station KJRH reports that the mechanic was taken to a hospital with cuts to his forehead, nose and fingers.

One runway was closed temporarily at the airport, which primarily serves private aircraft.

Major Bridge in OKC to Reopen on Turnpike

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Officials say the Lake Hefner flyover bridge will reopen Saturday on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City.

The bridge has been closed since October as crews rebuilt a support structure. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says the project finished up 36 days ahead of schedule. Officials had initially planned for a 90-day closure.

The bridge carries an estimated 8,500 motorists per day from westbound Kilpatrick Turnpike onto southbound Lake Hefner Parkway.

No Arrest Yet in Shooting Death of Enid Man

ENID, Okla. (AP) — Police in Enid say there have been no arrests yet in the weekend shooting death of a 24-year-old man.

Police Capt. Jack Morris says officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday to a home where they found Heath Crites dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

Morris said Wednesday that there has been no arrests and that detectives are not releasing other information.
