Immigration Enforcement: Tulsa County Style

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa County Jail has received almost $7-million in grants for holding immigration violators who have committed other crimes.

The sheriff says his department's work is bolstering ties with Tulsa growing Hispanic community. He says it has also lowered Tulsa County's overall crime rate.

Student Worries About Diploma

Sperry, OK – Vietnamese student in Okla. worries about diploma

SPERRY, Okla. (AP) The stand-in parents of a Vietnamese exchange student say they're worried that Oanh Kim Pham's $8,000 annual college scholarship could be endangered if she's unable to get a high school diploma.

A Sperry School District official says he never promised Pham known as "Annie" to friends and her exchange family that she could graduate.

Oklahoma City, OK – Abortion showdown looms in Legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A showdown between Oklahoma's Democratic governor and the GOP-controlled Legislature is expected to play out this week after Henry vetoed two abortion bills.

Gov. Brad Henry vetoed both measures on Friday, and Republican leaders quickly vowed to attempt an override, which would be the first such attempt this year.

Dollar Thrifty Sold

new York City, NY – Hertz agrees to buy rival Dollar Thrifty for $1.2B

NEW YORK (AP) Hertz Global Holdings Inc., the world's largest car rental company, says it will buy rival Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group for about $1.17 billion in cash and stock.

Hertz says the deal will give it an additional 1,550 additional locations, boosting its total to 9,800. It says it will boost its leisure rental business in Europe and elsewhere.

Rocket Show has Tulsa Fans

Tulsa, OK – An estimated 40,000 people turned out yesterday for Quik Trip Air and Rocket Racing Show at the Tulsa International Airport. The show was a benefit for the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

The museum is trying to become one of three locations for the retiring space shuttles.
Rocket planes use rocket fuel rather than aviation fuel, meaning those planes can fly higher and faster.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. governor vetoes 2 abortion bills

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's governor has vetoed two abortion bills that he says has flaws, including no exemption for rape and incest victims.

One of the bills that Gov. Brad Henry denied Friday would have required women seeking abortions early in their pregnancies to undergo an invasive form of ultrasound and listen to a detailed description of the fetus before having the procedures.

Tax Avoidance Conspiracy Sentence

Tulsa, OK – Okla. businessman, Ark. lawyer get 15-year terms

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Kellyville, Okla., businessman and his lawyer from Fort Smith, Ark., have both been sentenced by a federal judge to serve 15 years in prison for a tax-avoidance conspiracy.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Friot on Friday sentenced 44-year-old Lindsey Springer of Kellyville and 46-year-old Oscar Stilley of Fort Smith after the two were convicted by a jury Nov. 16.
