Plea in Brookside Hit and Run

Tulsa, OK – Man pleads no contest in fatal Brookside assault

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A 26-year-old Tulsa man charged with two murders and five other felonies in connection with a 2008 vehicle assault has pleaded no contest.

Andrew Allen Mathis entered the pleas Wednesday in Tulsa County District Court. Judge Kurt Glassco accepted the pleas and found Mathis guilty of all seven counts.

Oklahoma City, OK – Gov. Brad Henry late Wednesday night vetoed abortion legislation that would have punished rape and incest victims who did not report the crimes against them within a specified time frame by denying them insurance coverage for an abortion.

Among other things, House Bill 3290 would have required these rape and incest victims to purchase special and separate abortion insurance before they were victimized in order to obtain an abortion covered by their health insurance policy.

Juveniles Missing From Rader

Sand Springs, OK – The search is on for two juveniles who escaped from the L-E Rader Center at Sand Springs. The teens went missing just before 10 this morning. They are identified by the Department of Juvenile Affairs as 17-year-old William James and 15-year-old Dillon Herzfeld. Sand Springs Police is helping with the search.

Verdict in M.E. Case

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The former chief investigator for the state Medical Examiner's office who was acquitted of a sexual battery charge says the past 18 months have been hard on him and his family.

Kevin Rowland spoke with reporters shortly after a jury delivered the not-guilty verdict Wednesday morning. The panel deliberated about 45 minutes.

Rowland says he would have been nervous about the case if he had committed the crime for which he was accused.

Shots fire a Tulsa Business

Tulsa, OK –
Shots are fired overnight at Moe's Grill at 5th and South Lewis is Tulsa. The store was the scene of a fatal shooting just last week. That is when a former Okmulgee County Reserve Deputy shot and killed a man who was threatening to pull a gun from his waist band inside the store.

The Tulsa Police Department says two men sprayed the front of the store with bullets overnight. It is believed to be in retaliation for last week's shooting.

Cell Phone Bill Advances

Oklahoma City, OK – Cell phone restriction OK'd for Okla. teen drivers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Teenage drivers would be prohibited from talking or texting on a hand-held cell phone in non-emergency situations under a bill approved by the Oklahoma House.

The House voted 90-5 Tuesday for a bill to allow teens with a learner's permit or intermediate driver's license to have their license suspended or revoked for using any hand-held electronic device, except in life-threatening emergencies. The bill now heads to the governor.
