Oklahoma City, OK – 60 Okla. Guard ag soldiers headed to Afghanistan

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) More than 60 Oklahoma National Guard soldiers will be honored as they depart for an agricultural mission in Afghanistan.

The farewell ceremony for the 2-45th Agri-Business Development Team will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Mustang. It will replace another agribusiness unit that already deployed.

School Improvement List Released

Oklahoma City, OK – 90 Oklahoma schools on school improvement list

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Ninety Oklahoma schools are on the state's school improvement list during this school year under standards set by the federal No Child Left Behind law.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education released the list Thursday during a meeting of the state Board of Education.

Prisoners Released Early

Grove, Oklahoma – For the 4th time in 2 years, Delaware County voters rejected a sales tax increase to expand the county jail.
Now inmates are being released and bonds are being lowered to reduce over crowding.
The current jail was built to house 62 inmates- but has about 70 prisoners right now.
The tax proposal would have added 100- beds to the jail.

American Airlines Slapped with Record Setting Fine

American Airlines

Dallas, Texas – American Airlines is hit with a 24-million dollar fine.
The FAA claims American Airlines performed poor maintenance of its' airplanes, causing thousands of delayed and cancelled flights.
The maintenance in question is wiring inside the wheel wells. The federal agency says the wiring problems could have led to fires and explosions.
24-million dollars is the largest safety penalty ever levied by the FAA.
American says they will challenge the fine.

Chelsea Police Chief Charged

Claremore, Oklahoma – The police chief for the city of Chelsea, is charged with 12 felony drug counts.
The charges accuse Chief Jeremy Murrell of obtaining more than 3-thousand pills from doctors and pharmacies across the state.
The Chief was arrested, paid 12-thousand dollars in bail and was released. He is on indefinite paid leave.

EPA Delays Air Quality Rules

Washington, D.C. – The E-P-A is delaying,by two months, implementation of its new tighter air quality standards. It is feared when those rules go into effect; Tulsa will be out of compliance and will be placed on the so-called "Dirty Air List". It had been expected those rules would become effective this month.
