Oklahoma City, OK – Guthrie man claims $200,000 lottery prize

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Mowing the lawn may have just gotten a little easier for a Guthrie man.

Charles Anderson has claimed a winning $200,000 Powerball ticket from the Sept. 22 drawing and says he'll pay off his debts and maybe buy a riding lawn mower.

The lottery commission announced Monday that Anderson has claimed the prize after matching all five white balls in last Wednesday's drawing.

Tulsa, OK – Prosecutor: Man not eligible to be Boynton judge

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) The Muskogee County prosecutor says a Tulsa man who claims to be a candidate for judge in Boynton is not eligible for the post.

Political adviser Bruce Niemi told the Tulsa World he's under consideration for the position. But District Attorney Larry Moore told the Muskogee Phoenix on Saturday that Niemi is not eligible because he doesn't live in Muskogee County or an adjacent county as required.

Tulsa Soldier Facing Charges of Rape and Burglary

Fort Brag, North Carolina – FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) An Army judge in North Carolina is expected to set a trial date for an Oklahoma soldier accused in a series of rapes and break-ins at Fort Bragg.

The 82nd Airborne Division says a pretrial hearing is scheduled Monday for 23-year-old Aaron Pernell of Tulsa, Okla. Pernell could face life in prison if he is convicted of rape in the military court system.

The judge is hearing arguments on a series of pretrial issues, including the best date for a court-martial.

Federal Grants Help State Law Enforcement

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma law enforcement agencies are using federal stimulus funds for various needs ranging from buying guns and computers to rehiring laid off officers.

U.S. Justice Department records show more than 100 county and municipal departments were eligible for about $9 million in stimulus funds.

Durant, OK – Fire destroys barracks at historic Fort Washita

DURANT, Okla. (AP) The replica of a military barracks at Fort Washita in southeastern Oklahoma has been destroyed by fire.

The fire at the two-story building was reported about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported.

The state fire marshal's office is looking for the cause of the blaze.
