School Closed

Beggs, OK – Meningitis leads Oklahoma school to close early

BEGGS, Okla. (AP) Classes are canceled for the remainder of the week at Beggs Public Schools in Okmulgee County after a student was diagnosed with viral meningitis.

A statement placed on the district's website Wednesday says middle school student does not have the more serious bacterial meningitis and that canceling classes is a precaution.

Christmas Comes Early

Tulsa, OK – Christmas arrives ten-days early at the Bryant Elementary school in north Tulsa. Employees from Kimberly-Clark helped Santa deliver a wrapped gender specific present to each of the over 400 students.

School counselor Laura Hassell says Santa visited each of the kids and presented them with their present.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. parole board denies clemency for inmate

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has voted against recommending clemency for a death-row inmate convicted in the 1995 killing of a Tulsa convenience store clerk.

The board voted 3-2 Wednesday in the case of Billy D. Alverson.

Leon Russell to get Award

Undated – NEW YORK (AP) Neil Diamond is in. Bon Jovi isn't. The Alice Cooper Band makes the cut.

The 2011 class for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was revealed on Tuesday. Diamond, Alice Cooper, Darlene Love, Dr. John and Tom Waits will be enshrined in the Cleveland hall.

The third time was the charm for Love, who had been nominated twice before. Tulsan Leon Russell was honored with a musical excellence award, previously the sideman category.

Tulsa, OK – Jenks and Glenpool voters go to the polls yesterday with different results. Voters in Jenks approved school bond issues while residents in Glenpool rejected proposals for a sports complex, the streets and the cemetery.

The Jenks plan would not raise taxes; the Glenpool proposal would have increased property taxes.

Turley Chop Shop

Turley, OK – Tulsa County Sheriff's Deputies close down what they call a Chop-Shop near Turley. 28-year-old Corey Owens was arrested by Tulsa County Deputies serving a search warrant shortly after day break this morning near 56th Street North and Lewis.


Owens was arrested about 7:30 a.m. Deputies recovered several vehicles and weapons. Owens has a past drug conviction. Bond has been set at 70-thousand dollars.
