Sustainability Effort Moves Forward

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has announced the contractor selected for the development of the City of Tulsa's Sustainability Plan. The selected company, URS, submitted a proposal for a cost of $276,990.00 and with a timeline of four months. Work on the plan, which will address ways to save energy and make systems throughout the city more efficient, will begin in January 2011 and expect to conclude in summer 2011.

Claremore, OK – Okla woman charged in deaths of daughters in crash

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) A Claremore woman has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of her 2- and 6-year-old daughters in a September auto crash in which she was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Tulsa World reports Rogers County prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against 27-year-old Destiny Lynn Burns and an arrest warrant was issued for her. She was not in custody and court documents do not list an attorney for her.

Ball Park is Back

Tulsa, OK – The cry of "play ball" will again be heard at Tulsa's old Driller Park on the Fairgrounds. RBI-Baseball has signed a one year lease to use the stadium for tournaments and baseball camps. County Commissioner Fred Perry is pleased with the deal.

The firm moves in next month. The ballpark has been empty since the Drillers moved downtown to the new OneOK Field.

Tax Cuts Ahead Despite Budget Crunch

Oklahoma City, OK – Panel: Okla. revenue growth should trigger tax cut

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A panel of state leaders has made a preliminary finding that Oklahoma's revenue growth is enough to trigger a cut in the state's top income tax rate for the 2012 tax year.

The State Board of Equalization voted 6-1 on Tuesday that early estimates show there is enough growth in state revenue to reduce the state's income tax rate from 5.5 percent to 5.25 percent.

Oklahoma's Population Up

Oklahoma City, OK – Census places Oklahoma population at 3.75 million

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) New census figures show Oklahoma's population grew 8.7 percent over the last decade to 3.75 million people.

The state's growth rate was among the lowest in the region over the past 10 years. But it was enough for the state to retain its five House seats in Congress.

Council Accepts Offer

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa City Council votes to accept an offer of legal aid from Tulsa Attorney Clark Brewster. The Tulsa attorney has agreed to help the city handle legal cases stemming from the Tulsa Police Corruption case. The council will accept up to $1.2 million worth of services from Brewster.

Tulsa, OK – The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for the Tulsa area until 10 a.m. this morning. The fog is hampering the morning commute because of low visibilities. The temps are above freezing, so there is not a problem with freezing fog.

Update: Arrests Made

Tulsa, OK – 2 arrested in Tulsa home invasion shooting death

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police say two men who invaded a Tulsa couple's home, robbed them and killed the husband had thought they would be robbing a drug dealer, but got the wrong address.

Officers said Monday they had arrested 19-year-old Michael Morris Taylor on a charge stemming from the slaying early Saturday of 38-year-old National Guard soldier Jerry Lee VanEllen. Police said a 17-year-old was arrested Sunday.
