Special Coinage for Salvation Army

Tulsa, OK – gold coin again given to Tulsa Salvation Army

TULSA, Okla. (AP) For the 14th time in the past 15 years an anonymous donor has dropped a pure-gold South African Krugerrand into a Salvation Army kettle in Tulsa.

The coin is valued at $680 and was found Tuesday in a kettle outside a Reasor's grocery store. Tulsa Area Commander Maj. Roy Williams told the Tulsa World the coin was wrapped in a "Merry Christmas" note.

Driller's Old Owner is New Again

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Drillers announced today that minority owner Went Hubbard has repurchased 100% interest in the Texas League franchise. Hubbard has purchased majority owner Chuck Lamson's shares of the team.

The transaction has been approved by the Texas League, Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball.

Hubbard's sons, Dale and Jeff Hubbard will replace Lamson and serve as co-Chairmen of the club. Jeff has previously played and coached for the Drillers.

Charges Filed Against Lawmakers

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A former Oklahoma state senator and a current House member have been charged with bribery in an alleged deal to exchange a newly created state job for a promise not to seek re-election.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater filed felony bribery charges Wednesday against former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich and state Rep. Randy Terrill. If convicted, they could face up to two years in prison.

Baker-Hughes Expansion

Claremore, OK – Claremore's Baker Hughes operation is about to expand. The company announced today through the state's quality jobs program that the firm would add well over 600 new jobs over the next decade.

Mike Neal with the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce says the company will also have jobs at facilities in Tulsa, Sand Springs and Broken Arrow.

UPDATE: Man with Brain Injury is Found

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Police have found the body of a missing 57-year-old man. Richard Shook walked away from his home near 25th and Mingo about three this morning. He suffers from a brain injury and has the mental capacity of a five-year-old.

Tulsa Police say Shook's body was found behind a business less than a mile from his home. The discovery was made this afternoon near 31st and South Mingo. Police do not suspect foul play.

Sustainability Effort Moves Forward

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has announced the contractor selected for the development of the City of Tulsa's Sustainability Plan. The selected company, URS, submitted a proposal for a cost of $276,990.00 and with a timeline of four months. Work on the plan, which will address ways to save energy and make systems throughout the city more efficient, will begin in January 2011 and expect to conclude in summer 2011.

Claremore, OK – Okla woman charged in deaths of daughters in crash

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) A Claremore woman has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of her 2- and 6-year-old daughters in a September auto crash in which she was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Tulsa World reports Rogers County prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against 27-year-old Destiny Lynn Burns and an arrest warrant was issued for her. She was not in custody and court documents do not list an attorney for her.
