Oklahoma City, OK – Light streaks across sky in Arkansas, Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Authorities in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma both say they've received numerous reports of a bright light possibly a meteor passing over the area, although they're not sure where it might have landed.

Racing at the Fairgrounds

Chili Bowl

Tulsa, Ok – The bowl season is winding down. It will end on the highest of notes though, with this week's 25th Anniversary of the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals at the QuikTrip Center's Tulsa Expo Raceway.


Currently, 67 of the 260-ish entries are set to tackle the -mile indoor clay oval. The event is expected to pump an estimated $15-million into the local economy,

Oklahoma Awaitng Recovery

Tulsa, Ok – Despite improving state revenue figures---the head of the Oklahoma Policy Institute remains concerned about the economy. David Blatt says the recovery is uncertain.

He says personal income in Oklahoma grew in the third quarter of last year, but the growth was less than the second quarter. On the other side the number of people getting food stamp type assistance declined in October for the first time in 30-months

Thick Smoke From Refinery?

Tulsa, Okla. – The thick black smoke belching from the Holly Refinery this morning was caused by flares burning off excess product. The flares burned for about ten minutes as Holly crews were shutting down a processing unit.

Woodward, OK – Okla. boy rescued after tongue gets stuck on pole

WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) In a scene straight from the movie "A Christmas Story," an 8-year-old Oklahoma boy got his tongue stuck to a metal pole after he licked it on a dare.

Officials say when rescue crews arrived Tuesday morning, the boy was standing on his tiptoes, trying to wriggle his frozen tongue free from a stop sign pole across the street from Woodward Middle School.

Guilty Plea in VA Theft

Muskogee, OK – Checotah, Okla., man pleads guilty to VA theft

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) The U.S. attorney's office at Tulsa says a 36-year-old Checotah man has entered a guilty plea to a charge of theft or embezzlement of public money that accused him of fraudulently obtaining $45,000 in education benefits from the federal Veterans Affairs Department.

A news release from the federal prosecutor's office Tuesday said Shane Miller had entered his plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven P. Shreder at Muskogee.

Oklahoma City, OK – OKC Republican elected to fill state Senate seat

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A 32-year-old Republican from Oklahoma City has won a special election to fill a state Senate seat vacated by the new lieutenant governor.

In a special election Tuesday, Greg Treat beat four other GOP candidates seeking the District 47 seat that had been held by Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb. No Democrats filed for the election, so a Senate spokeswoman said Treat will take office as early as Jan 19.

McAlester, OK – Oklahoma inmate executed for 1994 slaying

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma death row inmate has been executed for the 1994 slaying of his 77-year-old great uncle.

Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie says Jeffrey David Matthews was pronounced dead at 6:09 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a lethal injection of drugs.

The 38-year-old Matthews was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the Jan. 27, 1994, slaying of Otis Earl Short during a robbery.
