OK-POP Gets Land

Tulsa, OK – The Oklahoma Historical Society has accepted donated land from the Bank of Oklahoma for the new proposed OKPOP museum. The Historical Society's Director Bob Blackburn says the popular culture museum would have a huge economic impact on Tulsa.

The Society wants the state to agree to a 40-million dollar bond issue to pay for the museum. Blackburn says it is structured in such a way that the Society would not need the cash for several years.

I-44 Problems

Tulsa, OK – 1 lane of westbound Interstate 44 closed in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (AP) One lane of westbound Interstate 44 in Tulsa has been closed following an accident involving a tractor-trailer rig.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the semi hit a bridge over Peoria Avenue in southwest Tulsa about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday. Both westbound lanes were shut down for about four-and-a-half hours before one lane was reopened just before 6:15 a.m.

The patrol says one lane will remain closed until repairs are complete.

Embezzlement Charges

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. woman sentenced to 30 months for embezzlement

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal judge has sentenced a Jones woman to 30 months in prison for embezzling $1.5 million from an Oklahoma City electric company where she worked as a bookkeeper.

U.S. District Judge David Russell also on Tuesday ordered 50-year-old Lora Renshaw to pay $1.275 million in restitution to Crown Electric, $250,000 to Central Mutual Insurance Co. and $457,530 to the Internal Revenue Service.

Budget Agreement

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. leaders reach agreement on state budget

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State leaders reached an agreement on a $6.5 billion state budget for the upcoming fiscal year that uses a combination of agency budget cuts, money from a cash reserve fund and a transportation bond issue to plug a $500 million hole in the budget.

BA Fire

Broken Arrow, OK – Broken Arrow fire fighters to battle at lunch time today with an apartment fire.

It was just off the Broken Arrow Expressway east of 161st East Avenue. The fire at the Kenwood Hills Apartments caused considerable damage.

At least was one person was injured. The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

New Auditor at Work

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa's new auditor is on the job.

Clift Richards was sworn in at one this afternoon, by Tulsa County Presiding District Judge Tom Thornburgh.

He was appointed to the position by Mayor Bartlett and confirmed by the city council after Auditor Preston Doerflinger resigned to join Governor Fallin's staff.

Help for Man Who Held Parent's Hostage

Sand Springs, OK – He could have easily become an Oklahoma statistic! A Sand Springs man off his medication and armed with a nine-millimeter gun holds his parents hostage .

He eventually released his parents this morning and surrendered to the Sand Springs Police Department's Special Operations Team. Sand Springs Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter doubts there will be charges.
