Tulsa, OK – Groundbreaking for Tulsa drive-in draws big crowd

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Drive-in movie fans showed their loyalty in Tulsa when they showed up at the groundbreaking for the Admiral Twin, which is being rebuilt after being destroyed by fire.

Owner Blake Smith said Saturday that he hopes the twin-screen theater is running again by mid-August. The drive-in first opened in 1951. It burned to the ground last September.

Smith says the reconstruction will cost $400,000, which was aided by $30,000 in donations from patrons.

Home damaged as storms move through NW Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) At least one home was damaged but no injuries were reported when a possible tornado moved through the Oklahoma Panhandle.

The National Weather Service had a preliminary report of a tornado 5 miles north of Boyd in Beaver County Saturday night.

Tulsa, OK – Okla woman arrested in husband's death released

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A 19-year-old woman accused in the fatal fall of her husband from a Tulsa high-rise apartment is free on $250,000 bond.

Amber Hilberling was arrested on a murder complaint after her 23-year-old husband, Joshua Hilberling, fell 17 stories Tuesday from a unit at the University Club Apartments tower on to a parking garage.

In an arrest report, police allege Amber Hilberling pushed her husband, causing him to fall through the apartment building window.

Work Moves Forward on Google Plant

PRYOR, Okla. (AP) Google is moving forward with a $600 million data facility project in Pryor that is expected to bring in dozens of jobs.

Company spokesman Matt Dunne told the Journal Record that Google will eventually employ 100 at the facility in the Mid-America Industrial Park.

Tornado Death Toll

Norman, OK – Forecasters say deaths hit them in pit of stomach

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Forecasters say they are hit with a "pit of the stomach feeling" when the death toll rises during severe weather.

Tornadoes have killed more than 520 people across the nation this year, even though scientific advances allow for earlier warnings.

Meteorologists acknowledge they don't experience the tragedies the same way as those close to the victims, but say taking stock of what has happened helps them focus on ways to improve the warning system.

Charges Filed in Police Chase

Oklahoma City, OK – Murder charge filed in police chase death

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma County prosecutors have filed a first-degree murder charge in the death of a man who collapsed after exchanging shots with officers during a chase.

The charges were filed Friday against Mandirous Kamisizian. Authorities say Kamisizian was the driver of a stolen vehicle and exchanged gunfire with officers in pursuit on May 31. A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Clay Baron Howell, collapsed in a parking lot and died following the incident.

Tulsa, OK – Ex-Tulsa cop convicted of corruption; 2 acquitted

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal jury has convicted a former Tulsa police officer on five corruption counts while acquitting two current officers.

Former Officer Harold Wells was convicted Friday and current Officers Nick DeBruin and Bruce Bonham were cleared. Prosecutors had alleged a plot to plant drugs on suspects to secure arrests and to seize money taken during raids and arrests.

Admiral Twin Rises Again

Tulsa, OK – All of Tulsa is invited to celebrate this Saturday morning the rebuilding of the Admiral Twin Drive-In. The movie theater was destroyed by a fire last September. This new building is a more personal project to architect Shelby Navarro. He grew up with the Admiral Twin, and hopes to make the theater even better than it was before.
The project is expected to be completed mid-August.
