Brief Relief from the Heat

Tulsa, OK – After yesterday's record heat, there's a little relief as a cool front drops temperatures today. Still, we're in the grip of an early summer that seems more like late July or August.
High temperatures should be at least 10 degrees cooler today than yesterday. It is an ozone alert day which means air quality will not be good and you should put off running unnecessary errands and things like mowing the lawn during the heat of the day.

Meth ingredients

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) Drug stores in the Tulsa area sell more pseudoephedrine (SOO'-doh-uh-feh'-drihn) than anywhere else in Oklahoma. More than 1,000 pounds of the cold medicine was sold in Tulsa proper last year. That makes the city the largest source in the state for the key ingredient in methamphetamine. There is a move underway to try and make products with pseudeephedrine available by prescription only.

Excessive Heat Warning

Tulsa, OK – (EXCESSIVE HEAT)
There's an excessive heat warning in effect for the Tulsa area today. Gusty winds will help a little, but a heat index of 110 is possible this afternoon. A little relief is expected tomorrow. There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. The expected high Tuesday is about 92 degrees about 10 degrees cooler than today's expected high.

Escaped Murder Suspect Recaptured

Purcell, OK – Suspect in Okla. triple murder recaptured after escape

A triple-murder suspect who escaped from the McClain County Jail has been captured and returned there.

Deputy jailer Jerry White says Shaun Michael Bosse was captured by U.S. marshals in a pond in Blanchard. He says he was booked back into the jail around 9 p.m. CDT.

Authorities say he escaped Sunday after overpowering a guard and fled in a Pontiac Grand Am, which was later found in Blanchard near his grandmother's house.

New Cherokee Chief

Tahlequah, OK – Bill John Baker has been elected the new principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, but his 11-vote margin of victory may spur a recount.

Baker was declared the winner Sunday morning, with about 15,000 votes cast. Tribal officials spent the night in private, considering whether to accept or reject provisional ballots, until they finally declared a winner.

Muskogee Flood Buy Out

Muskogee, oK – Homeowners, city at odds over flood buyout program

Tip Led to Arrest

Boston, MA – FBI: Bulger tipster saw recent campaign commercial

BOSTON (AP) The FBI says a tipster who led federal agents to the California home to Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger and his longtime girlfriend recognized the couple from a recent TV campaign.

FBI spokesman Greg Comcowich says the tipster called the FBI after she saw the recent commercials that asks people, particularly women, to be on the lookout for Greig.
