Sleepwalking: No Murder Defense

Life sentence for Okla. man, blames sleepwalking

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A man was sentenced to life in prison for an Oklahoma City murder after a judge wouldn't allow him to claim that he was sleepwalking at the time of the killing.

The Oklahoman reports that 49-year-old Roger Frank Kincaid drew a sentence Friday of life plus 20 years for the stabbing death four years ago of Terry Lee Jobe. A jury convicted him of first-degree murder.

Day Care Fire on North Side

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Fire Fighters are investigating the cause of an overnight house fire north of downtown.

The blaze was reported about three this morning near Pine and North Cheyenne. The building was occupied by Tiffany's Day Care. The blaze may have been smoldering for sometime before the flames broke out. Once the fire started going, it quickly spread to a vacant nearby home.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Large Fire near 36th North and 169

Tulsa, OK – A large grass fire burns several acres near 36th street north and Highway 169. It is believed the Sunday night blaze may have been started by a downed power line in the area.

Thick black smoke was spotted by travelers on the highway around 8 p.m. The Red Cross was called out to assist fire fighters with hydration. At the time of the blaze the temperature was in the upper 90s.

No one was injured.

The Tulsa World reports that the trial that had been scheduled for July 25 will now begin on Aug. 1.

No Federal Charges in Cross Burning

State, not federal charges in Okla. cross burning

SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) Prosecutors in Creek County will handle the case of two juveniles and an adult accused of burning a cross in front of a church in Sapulpa.

Federal prosecutors had considered pursuing the case as a hate crime.

The Creek County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Friday that the suspects and their parents have cooperated in the investigation.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A memorial service is set for a U.S. Army solider from Tulsa who died in a roadside bombing in Iraq.

The Tulsa World reports the service for 20-year-old Specialist Dylan J. Johnson will be held Wednesday at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. Johnson's burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia is pending.
