Copper Theft Reward

Tulsa, OK – A reward is being offered for copper thieves who caused a power outage in this sweltering heatwave .

Stuart Solomon with Public Service Company says there has been an outbreak of copper thefts recently. The latest caused an outage that affected more than eight thousand people in the Southern Hills area two nursing homes included. A reward's being offered of up to five-thousand dollars.

Solomon says P-S-O has implemented heightened security measures at substations and other facilities where copper could be stolen.

Jury Selection Begins in Rogue Cops Case

Tulsa, OK – Jury Selection got underway in the federal trial of two Tulsa Police officers indicted for being on the wrong side of the law.

Prosecutors had originally asked for a 30-day delay in the trials of Jeff Henderson and Bill Yelton. However, the motion to delay the case while the prosecution reviewed some 500-pages of discovery was withdrawn just before the scheduled start of the jury selection.

Power and Air Conditioning Back

Tulsa, OK – The power was knocked out in south Tulsa last night.

About 81-hundred PSO customers were left without juice when a transformer blew near 61st and Lewis. It could have been caused by thieves trying to steal metal at a substation.

The power was restored about 10- last night.

Two More North Side Arson Fires

AP – Two more arson fires are in north Tulsa overnight. The blazes, in vacant houses, were near Pine and Lewis.

In the first blaze, one fire fighters suffered minor injuries. That blaze was put out within ten minutes.

The other blaze was reported about a half-hour and half-mile away. Tulsa Fire officials have been investigating a rash of arson fires in the same general areas.

Fatal Crash

Tulsa, OK – A passenger is dead following an overnight car crash in Tulsa. The accident happened shortly after three 3 AM this morning.

He was hanging out of a car window and struck his head on a guard rail when the driver of the car lost control near 11th and Mingo in east Tulsa. Tulsa Police say the driver and dead passenger has apparently been drinking.

The man's body was ejected from the car.

Blue green algae found at Oklahoma City lakes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma City officials say blue green algae has been found at two of its lakes.

Officials said Friday that the city's Water Quality department has treated Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser and will continue to monitor the algae levels daily.

Officials say swimming isn't allowed on Oklahoma City lakes, but they want visitors to avoid areas with visible algae accumulation.

Central Oklahoma Quakes

Choctaw, OK – 6 small earthquakes recorded in central Oklahoma

CHOCTAW, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Geological Survey says six small earthquakes have been recorded near Choctaw in central Oklahoma.

No injuries or damage have been reported as a result of the quakes on Friday.

The survey says the largest was magnitude 2.7 and was recorded at 10:45 p.m. Friday. The U.S. Geological Survey gave the quake a preliminary magnitude of 2.8.
