Norman, OK – Grasshoppers move to urban areas due to heat

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) An entomologist at Oklahoma State University says the record-setting heat and ongoing drought in Oklahoma is causing grasshoppers to move into urban areas in search of food.

Rick Grantham told The Norman Transcript that the lack of green vegetation in more rural areas has driven the insects to cities where they find green lawns and gardens.

Boy Missing at Eufaula

Eufaula, OK – Authorities looking for little Oklahoma boy

EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) McIntosh County law enforcement officers are looking for a 4-year-old boy.

The sheriff's office says Simon Littlethunder was last seen in Eufaula about 6 a.m. Saturday. He had on cowboy boots and underwear.

Authorities say Simon has a disability.

Officials say the child may be with 22-year-old Joleen Littlethunder, who is his non-custodial parent.

Tulsa, OK – Dollar Thrifty 2Q profit up on lower expenses

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group's second-quarter net income edged slightly higher, helped by lower expenses.

The Tulsa car Dollar Thrifty says its quarterly profit rose to $42.5 million, or $1.36 per share. That's up from $42.3 million, or $1.40 per share.

Per share earnings fell because there were more shares outstanding in the current quarter.

Three Dead in Crash

Madill, OK –

MADILL, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says three people have died after a stolen sport utility vehicle crashed into another SUV during a police chase that began in Madill.

The names of the three were not immediately released.

The OHP says Chickasaw Lighthorse Police, Marshall County deputies and Madill police were chasing the stolen SUV Monday on U.S. 70 when the driver turned off the headlights and crashed into an oncoming SUV.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The candidates for Cherokee Nation principal chief have hit the campaign trail again, hoping to reach even more voters before the Sept. 24 election.

Incumbent Chief Chad Smith and tribal council member Bill John Baker have resumed sending out emails and mailers to registered voters, encouraging them to vote or send in absentee ballot requests by Aug 12.

Wild Fire West of Tulsa

Mannford, OK – Firefighters still working fires across Oklahoma

MANNFORD, Okla. (AP) Firefighters continued to battle a grass fire near Mannford that has destroyed homes and other structures.

Emergency medical responder Beverly Avey with the Keystone Fire Department said Sunday firefighters were still at the scene of the blaze near Oklahoma Highway 51. Avey said some homes had been lost but she didn't know how many.

Terlton Fire Update

Terelton, OK – Wild fires on the north side of Keystone Lake burns homes and cabins in the Pawnee County community of Terlton.

Nearly two dozen homes have been destroyed as the swift moving fire defies fire-fighters. The Red Cross has set up a shelter in 10-miles away in Cleveland for this impacted, Last night over 30-people spent the night there.

The Cimarron Turnpike has been closed between the Cleveland exit and Hallett because of thick smoke.
