No Change in Unemployment Rate

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. unemployment rate unchanged in October

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's unemployment rate remained at 6.9 percent in October.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reports that 121,510 people were unemployed last month, down from 122,080 in September. There were 122,680 people unemployed in October 2009.

Undated – US shoppers crowd malls all night long


UNDATED (AP) The nation's stores and malls drew the crowds in the wee hours as bargain hunters tried to get their hands on deals from TVs to toys on Black Friday.

Bargain shoppers crowded the nation's stores and malls, some of which made a bid to grab shoppers even earlier with Thanksgiving Day hours. Some stores did Black Friday promotions last month.

Troops Return

Tulsa, Ok – Okla. soldiers return home in time for holiday

TULSA, Okla. (AP) More than two dozen Oklahoma Air National Guard members got to spend Thanksgiving at home in the Tulsa area.

Thirty-one members of the Tulsa-based 219th Engineering Squadron were greeted by family members and friends when they arrived at Tulsa International Airport on Wednesday. The soldiers had been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Officer Killed in Crash

Eufaula, OK – Texas officer dies in Oklahoma vehicle accident

EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) Authorities say an off-duty law-enforcement officer from Texas has died in an accident on U.S. Highway 69.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 50-year-old Patrick Sirois of Killeen, Texas, died in the accident about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday about one mile north of Eufaula in McIntosh County.

Fatal Plane Crash

Duncan, OK – FAA says 1 death confirmed in Oklahoma plane crash

DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) The Federal Aviation Administration says one person has been killed in a plane crash near Duncan.

FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said Wednesday law enforcement officials confirmed that the pilot was the Cessna 172's sole occupant and was killed in the crash.

Escapee on the Lam

Fort Supply, OK – Northwest Okla. prison says inmate escapes

FORT SUPPLY, Okla. (AP) The state Department of Corrections says a man has escaped from a minimum-security prison in northwest Oklahoma.

Officials at William S. Key Correctional Facility say they realized an inmate was missing when they conducted a head count around 8 p.m. Tuesday. A second count confirmed that 31-year-old Terry Storey had escaped.

Officials aren't saying how he got out.

More Sooner Quakes

Luther, OK – Earthquakes reported in central Oklahoma

LUTHER, Okla. (AP) Authorities say two earthquakes have shaken parts of central Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey and the Oklahoma Geological Survey reported an earthquake about 4:48 p.m. Wednesday in eastern Oklahoma County, between Jones and Luther. The Oklahoma Geological Survey reports that the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.0, while the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake's magnitude at 3.9.

Muskogee Shooting Update

Muskogee, OK – Police continue search for man in fatal shooting

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Muskogee police are continuing their investigation into a double shooting that left one person dead and another wounded.

Police Cpl. Pedro Zardeneta told the Muskogee Phoenix that an arrest warrant was issued for a 17-year-old male after officers found two men with gunshot wounds at a residence around 1 p.m. Monday.
