Oklahoma City, OK – Teacher disfigured in fire derides damage caps

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Collinsville teacher whose face was disfigured in an operating room fire is speaking out against a legislative plan to limit pain and suffering damages in lawsuits.

Connie Plumlee says she has suffered excruciating pain recovering from the burns that resulted after a cauterizing tool ignited alcohol on her face and body.

Man Shot After Allegedly Stealing Police Car

Tulsa, Ok – Tulsa patrol car stolen; thief shot by police

TULSA, Okla. (AP) An unidentified private citizen helped police capture a man who stole a Tulsa patrol car.

Police said the car was stolen about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when officers tried to serve an arrest warrant.

Tulsa police identified the suspect as Steven Cahill, but did not provide an age or hometown.

10 Digit Dialing

Tulsa, OK – Beginning Sat., all calls in 918 need 10 digits

TULSA, Okla. (AP) All telephone calls placed in the 918 area code region of northeast Oklahoma will require punching in three more digits beginning next Saturday.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission set Saturday as the day to begin requiring callers to specify the area code, even if the call is a local call, so the telephone system can deal with addition of a new area code that will cover the same geographic area.

Tulsa, OK – Patrol cars with cameras hit Tulsa, Okla., streets

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Some patrol cars driven by Tulsa police sport a new feature a pair of cameras that can make videos of officers' encounters with the public.

Officer Richard Meulenburg told the Tulsa World that about 10 patrol cars used for traffic enforcement in the Mingo Valley Division began using the technology this week..

Officials say plans ultimately call for installation of 575 cameras in Tulsa patrol cars.

Hunter Killed

Wilburton, OK – WILBURTON, Okla. (AP) Latimer County prosecutors won't file criminal charges against a Hartshorne man for fatally shooting a friend while deer hunting.

Seventy-one-year-old Jack Zearley fired a high-powered rifle while he and 43-year-old John Morgan were hunting in the Gowen Mountain area in southeastern Oklahoma on Oct. 24, 2009.

Morgan died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Tulsa Lottery Winner

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla family wins $250,000 on lottery ticket

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Tulsa family is $250,000 richer, thanks to a winning lottery ticket.

According to the Oklahoma Lottery Commission, Edward Main and his sons Edward Main Jr. and Ronald Main are splitting the Mega Millions prize.

The family purchased the ticket at a Quik Trip convenience store on South Harvard that had all five numbers but not the Mega Ball.

Vinita, OK – Oklahoma boy killed after being struck by car

VINITA, Okla. (AP) Authorities are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy who was struck by a car after wandering into a Vinita street.

Police say the accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday along Tahlequah Avenue.

Vinita Assistant Police Chief Barry Armstrong told KTUL-TV the child walked up out of a steep ditch near his home and into the street. A passing driver saw the child and attempted to swerve, but it was too late.
