Shootings in Tulsa

Tulsa, Okla. – Tulsa police investigating 2 shootings

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police in Tulsa are investigating two shootings that occurred just blocks apart on the city's north side one that left a man dead and the second the left a man critically wounded.

Investigators say they don't know if the shootings are related.

Fetal Pain Bill Advances

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. lawmakers endorse fetal pain abortion ban

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Doctors who perform abortions in Oklahoma after a woman reaches 20 weeks of pregnancy could face felony charges under a bill overwhelmingly approved by a Senate committee.

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted 6-1 on Monday for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a measure based on the idea that a fetus can experience pain after 20 weeks. The House-passed bill now heads to the full Senate.

Fatal Fire

Norman, OK – Norman woman dies in house fire

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Firefighters in Norman say a woman was killed and a man critically injured in a house fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey told The Oklahoman that five other people who lived in the home were treated at the scene early Sunday. No names have been released.

Grants for Tribes

Oklahoma City, OK – HUD awards nearly $13 million to Oklahoma tribes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $12.894 million in grants to 18 tribal communities in Oklahoma to improve or create housing or economic development opportunities for low- to moderate-income families.

HUD officials said Friday the grants are provided through the Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) Program to support community development and affordable housing activities.
