Vandals Hit Bixby Buses

Bixby, OK – Vandals hit the Bixby Schools' bus barn. Most of the buses had deflated-tires when bus drivers showed up for work yesterday morning. That caused the buses to run up to three hours late.

Bixby Police will handle the investigation.

Burn Ban Extended

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa County Commission votes to expend the burn ban for another seven days. This is due to the wild fire threat in Tulsa County, brought on by the dry, windy days.

This time, there are some exceptions to the ban. Grills will be allowed so long as they are gas or electric powered. Charcoal grills are still a part of the ban.

Oklahoma City, OK – Judges discuss Okla's high women-in-prison rate

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Many Oklahoma judges asked about the state's high incarceration rate for women say they are not to blame for that fact.

A state Corrections Department spokesman says Oklahoma had 2,584 women in prison and halfway houses as of April 1. U.S. Justice Department statistics indicate in most years, Oklahoma puts more women in prison per capita than any other state.

Tulsa, OK – Ark man arrested in connection with fatal stabbing

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police say they've arrested an Arkansas man in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man in Tulsa.

Tulsa Police Cpl. Scott Anderson tells the Tulsa World that 24-year-old Sammy Leon Hall died at a local hospital early Saturday. Anderson says 31-year-old Rosendo Gutierrez of De Queen, Ark., was at the scene when authorities found Hall and was covered in blood.

Oklahoma City, OK – Cash reserve could be used to balance Okla budget

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma legislative leaders say they plan to use the state's cash reserve fund to help balance the fiscal year 2012 budget, despite protests from some segments of the Republican Party.

Rep. Earl Sears, the chairman of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee, tells The Oklahoman he knows that some others in the GOP oppose using the cash reserve.

Wild Fire Update

Undated – For 1 day, Oklahoma avoids worst of wildfires

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Wildfires in Oklahoma were kept to a minimum Sunday in another windy and mostly dry day for the state.

Authorities had predicted Sunday would be one of the worst days for wildfire potential in years, but the state Department of Emergency Management reported only four notable fires, in Ottawa, Pawnee, Greer and Creek counties.
