GLENPOOL, Okla. (AP) Police in Glenpool say a man who is charged with the beating death of a toddler was trying to potty train the 22-month-old to save money on diapers.

The Tulsa World reported Sunday that 28-year-old David Eugene Bridgman is charged with first-degree murder and injury to a minor.

Board Meeting Set

Oklahoma City, OK – Barresi, education board to discuss duties

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The state Board of Education and state Superintendent Janet Barresi are set to meet for the first time since Gov. Mary Fallin signed into law a bill stripping the board of most of its powers.

The board meeting scheduled for Monday had been set for April 28 but was postponed because of the lack of a quorum.

Meth Lab in Park

Tulsa, OK – Police in Tulsa say children uncovered a methamphetamine lab while exploring a creek at a park in west Tulsa.

The children came upon the meth lab Saturday at Reed Park. Police say one of the children looked through the chemical containers and told his father about what he saw. Police arrived to find the meth lab and drug paraphernalia.

A hazardous materials unit was summoned to clean up the site.

Drug Party Death

Konawa, OK – 1 dead, 7 in hospital after Oklahoma drug overdose

KONAWA, Okla. (AP) Authorities say one person is dead and seven are in the hospital after overdosing on a hallucinogenic drug in Konawa.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said authorities received an emergency call about 1:30 a.m. Saturday from a Konawa residence. She says they found eight people ranging in age from 19 to their early 20s suffering from severe drug toxicity.

New GOP Chair

Oklahoma City,OK – Pinnell elected as Oklahoma GOP chairman

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Delegates to Oklahoma's state Republican convention have elected Matt Pinnell of Tulsa County to a full two-year term.

The convention was Saturday in Oklahoma City. The 31-year-old Pinnell ran unopposed and remains the youngest state GOP chairman in the nation.

The 1,050 delegates elected Pam Pollard of Oklahoma County as the state party's vice chairwoman.

Pinnell says delegates made only "minor tweaks" to the party platform adopted last year.

Utility Vehicles

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. gov. signs bill for use of utility vehicles

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Legislation that allows the regulated use of utility vehicles on public roadways has been signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin.

The new law by Sen. Don Barrington of Lawton and Rep. Tommy Hardin of Madill puts utility vehicles in the same category as golf carts and allows their regulated use under certain circumstances.

Remembering

Tulsa, OK – Fallen Tulsa officers to be honored at ceremony

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Ceremonies are set to honor three Tulsa police officers who died in the line of duty and as well as other officers who died in 2010.

During a candlelight vigil at sundown Friday, a ceremony at the Tulsa Police Memorial to recall retired and active Tulsa officers who died last year in circumstances other than in the line of duty.
