Programs Spared at DHS

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma Department of Human Services commissioners have agreed to use about $10 million in one-time funding to prevent benefit reductions to two programs for low-income Oklahomans.

The vote Tuesday avoids an increase in co-payments for the child-care subsidy program and a reduction in monthly funding to a program for families with developmentally disabled children.

Oklahoma's Wind Energy

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. 3rd in wind capacity during recent quarter

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma ranked third in the nation in adding wind-generated electricity during the three-month period of July, August and September.

The American Wind Energy Association's report issued Tuesday shows Oklahoma added 130 megawatts to rank behind Colorado and Minnesota. West Virginia is fourth in the report and Texas is fifth.

Date Set to Fill Tulsa House Vacancy

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. governor sets special election dates

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Mary Fallin has issued two executive orders setting the dates for special elections to fill seats being vacated by Republican Rep. Dan Sullivan of Tulsa and Democratic Sen. Andrew Rice of Oklahoma City.

The candidate filing period for both Sullivan's House District 71 seat and Rice's Senate District 46 seat will be from Dec. 5 through Dec. 7. A special primary election if needed will be Feb. 14 and a special general election would be April 3.

Fallin says No

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. governor rejects inmate's commutation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Mary Fallin has denied a request for a commutation of a 61-year-old Oklahoma inmate who is serving a life-without-parole sentence for drug trafficking.

Fallin's office announced Tuesday that Fallin had denied the request from Larry Yarbrough. Yarbrough has served 17 years in prison for a conviction in Kingfisher County of trafficking in illegal drugs after former felony convictions.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. lawmakers gear up for interim studies

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Legislature is not in session, but lawmakers will be at the Capitol for several interim studies.

Two House committees and a Senate committee all are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss several issues, including bottle recycling, higher education and daycare liability.

The House Human Services Committee and House Agriculture and Environment Committee both are meeting, along with the Senate Education Committee.
