Tulsa, OK – Tulsa City Attorney Deidre Dexter has submitted her resignation to Mayor. Dexter has been the city attorney for the last four years. She will leave office on December 1st and return to private practice.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa based Dollar-Thrifty shareholders reject a one-point-46 billion dollar buy-out offer from Hertz. Rival bidder Avis sweetened his deal which was already three-dollars are share more than Hertz to include a 20-million dollar break-up fee if they fail to close on the deal.

Tulsa Chamber of Commerce Chairman Don Walker is somewhat relieved. The Chamber would prefer Dollar-Thrifty remain a stand-alone company. However, unlike Hertz, Avis does have a presence in Oklahoma.

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Police Department is in line for a four-point-four million dollar grant from the Justice Department. Tulsa is included in the communities splitting 298-million dollars from the Justice Department.

The money is to provide 100-percent of the approved salary and benefits for entry level officer positions over a three year period. If the department accepts the grant, it would be required to keep the officers for a fourth year.

Tulsa, OK – 2 Tulsa officers arraigned on updated indictment

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Two officers suspended from the Tulsa police force have pleaded not guilty to charges in an updated federal grand jury indictment accusing them of corruption.

Officers Jeff Henderson and Bill Yelton entered their pleas Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Paul Cleary in U.S. District Court at Tulsa.

Muskogee, OK – There is a new U-S attorney on the job at the federal court house at Muskogee. Mark Green was sworn into office yesterday as the new U-S Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He was nominated by President Obama last July. He will replace Sheldon Sperling who has been in the position since 2001.

Lawton, OK – Police: Lawton man dead in lawn mower accident

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) Police say a man in his 80s has died after a lawn mower tipped over and rolled on top of him.

Police identified the victim of Tuesday's accident as Tommie Gunn. They say Gunn was riding on the lawn mower, cutting the grass along a creek bed, when the machine tipped over.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. unemployment rate up slightly to 7 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's statewide unemployment rate is now at 7 percent.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Wednesday unemployment in the state in August increased slightly from July, but it's still much lower than the national August unemployment rate of 9.6 percent.
