Met Opera Broadcast Season Begins

Saturday at noon on Classical 88.7 HD1 – The 79th consecutive season of the Metropolitan Opera Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcasts launches on December 12, 2009 at 11:30 am with a live performance of Puccini's Il Trittico, starring Patricia Racette singing all three leading soprano roles. Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe also appears in the Puccini triple-bill.

Bishop Kelley Fire

A Tulsa fire truck has its ladder raised during a fire at the Bishop Kelley High School.

Tulsa, OK – Students at Tulsa's Bishop Kelley High School get out of class a little early. Fire alarms started sounding about 2:45 Friday afternoon and classrooms on the sprawling campus near 41st and I-44. Faculty and students were evacuated. Fire trucks and an EMSA ambulance responded to a fire in the athletic department's weight room.

Fire officials say the contents of the building will be a complete loss. There is no dollar amount to the damage at this time. The fire may have started in the a golf cart.

There were no injuries.

Giraffe Dies at Tulsa Zoo

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A 5-year-old female giraffe that suffered a neck injury while being transported to the Tulsa Zoo from Ohio has died.

Zoo officials announced Friday that the giraffe named "Amali" died during a procedure to determine the extent of her neck injury.

Zoo spokesman Angela Evans says Amali injured her neck Oct. 18 while she was being transported from her home zoo in Ohio.

Mayo RE-Dedicated

Tulsa, OK – The ribbon is cut for the re-dedication of the history Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa. The hotel at 5th and Cheyenne was completed in 1925 and was at the time the tallest building in Tulsa.

New North Tulsa Development

Officials and North Tulsa leaders break ground for the new shopping center on North Peoria

Tulsa, OK – Ground is broken later for a new shopping center in North Tulsa. The Shoppes on Peoria, the new 27,000 square foot retail development center will be located in north Tulsa at 1731 N. Peoria Avenue.

It is at the site of the old Seminole Shopping Center, known by developers as the Banfield site, after a long time meat market that was located there.
