Oklahoma City, OK – Commission sets fourth furlough day

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Corporation Commission will be closing for a day later this week.

Commission offices will be shut down statewide on Friday. Employees will be placed on unpaid furlough because of a budget shortfall.

Director of Administration Brooks Mitchell says employee furloughs were ordered only after the commission eliminated 8 percent of its work force and implemented $400,000 in other spending cuts.

Gusty Winds Expected

Oklahoma City, OK – Wind to come sweeping down the Plains

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma will live up to its reputation of being a windy state.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for 29 counties in northern and western Oklahoma through Wednesday night.

Forecasters say winds of 25 to 35 mph could gust as high as 50 mph in the Oklahoma Panhandle and 40 mph elsewhere.

The weather service says the winds may toss loose objects around and create hazardous driving conditions in the advisory area.

Oklahoma City, OK – Arrest puts Oklahoma prison wardens on alert

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A prison spokesman says wardens are on alert to possible inmate unrest following the arrest of a man under investigation in the deaths of four people and two fetuses in Oklahoma City.

The victims included a prostitute featured in the HBO reality series "Cathouse."

Denny Phillips was arrested Monday in Tulsa after being shot by police. He is expected to recover.

Stillwater, OK – Okla. man arrested for threatening jail with plane

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Payne County authorities say a Stillwater man has been arrested after threatening to fly a plane into the county jail.

Fifty-two-year-old Layne Lester Kent was arrested Saturday and charged Monday with a felony count of making a terrorism hoax. He appeared in court without an attorney and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. Senate overrides abortion bills veto

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Senate has voted to override Gov. Brad Henry's veto of two abortion bills, clearing the way for the bills to become law without his signature.

The Republican-controlled Senate voted 36-12 Tuesday to override the veto of a bill requiring women to undergo an ultrasound and listen to a detailed description of the fetus before getting an abortion.

BIA Gets New Director

Washington, D.C. – Sioux tribe member named to lead Indian Affairs

WASHINGTON (AP) Longtime Interior Department official Michael Black has been named director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Black is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. He had served as acting BIA director since March 18. He takes over from Jerold Gidner, who is now special counselor for Larry Echo Hawk, assistant Interior secretary for Indian Affairs.

Tulsa Police Shoot OKC Murder Suspect

Tulsa, OK – Man investigated in Okla City deaths shot in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A man under investigation in Oklahoma City in the deaths of six people including two fetuses has been arrested after being shot by Tulsa police.

Police say 32-year-old Denny Edward Phillips was shot three times Monday afternoon after pointing a gun at officers who had found him at a Tulsa motel. Capt. Rick Helberg says Phillips is expected to recover.
