GOP Chairman

Oklahoma City – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Gary Jones says he will step down next week as the party's leader in Oklahoma.

Jones told The Associated Press on Friday that he will formally resign from the post Monday to focus on his campaign for State Auditor and Inspector.

Jones says vice-chairman Angie LaPlante will take over as interim chairman until the state committee votes to elect a new chairman on June 26.

OSU Denies Pac 10 Move

The school issued a release to combat a report by TMZ Sports that had the Cowboys on the verge of accepting an invitation to the Pac-10.

10 Dead in Arkansas Flash Flooding

Caddo Gap, AK – CADDO GAP, Ark. - Flash floods around a campground in western Arkansas have drowned 10 people after four to six inches of rain swamped the area, officials told NBC News on Friday.

Search-and-rescue efforts were ongoing for campers who were still trapped at the Albert Pike Campground. State police spokesman Bill Sadler said the National Guard sent in helicopters.

OK Serviceman Given Proper Burial

Tulsa, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Military officials say the remains of a serviceman from Oklahoma missing in action from the Vietnam War is now buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Air Force Lt. Col. Jerry Chambers of Muskogee was among nine airmen aboard a transport plane over Laos in May 1968 when it crashed.

Chimp Turns Three

Tulsa, Okla. – The Tulsa Zoo is not known for its silence, but today was an especially loud day around the Chimpanzee Connection.

The zoo threw its second chimp birthday party of the year for Bernsen, who turned three today. His half-sister Vindi turned three in February.

Oklahoma Wheat Harvest

Lawton, Okla. – LAWTON, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma wheat harvest is starting in and producers say all is well except for the prices.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday reported prices from $2.88 per bushel in Lawton to $3.35 in Hobart. That's down from $3.59 in Lawton and $3.74 in Hobart last week.

Agriculture analysts say the prices are due to an overabundance of supply leftover from last year and a shaky global market.
