Poultry Lawsuit Ruling

Oklahoma City, OK – Appeals court upholds Cherokee Nation ruling

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal appeals court has upheld a ruling to block the Cherokee Nation from intervening in Oklahoma's water pollution lawsuit against 12 Arkansas poultry companies.

A divided three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals handed down the ruling on Tuesday. It upheld a decision by federal Judge Gregory K. Frizzell last year.

Unemployment Up

Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma's jobless rate climbs to 7 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's unemployment rate rose by one-tenth of a percentage point to 7 percent in August.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Tuesday that 122,480 people were out of work last month, up from 121,610 who were unemployed in July. Oklahoma's unemployment rate in August 2009 was 6.9 percent.

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A former teacher and coach convicted of murdering his wife has been sentenced in Tulsa to life in prison without parole. The Tulsa World reports the defense for 52-year-old John Kastner rested its case yesterday without calling any witnesses.

Tulsa, OK – Converting Tulsa's old city hall to a hotel gets a boost this week with final approval of the real estate deal expected. Councilors are expected to sign off on a resolution okaying the 1.2 million dollar contract with the same family that renovated the Mayo Hotel. City Economic Development Director Mike Bunney says closing will follow council action.
